Daryl & Sharna Balfour
Daryl and his wife Sharna are acclaimed among Africa's leading wildlife photographers. Their work is so highly regarded internationally they were invited lecturers at the prestigious North American Nature Photographers' Association (NANPA) annual summit. Daryl has published extensively including a book on photographic techniques, he is author of a photographic course available from Wild Life Campus (www.wildlifecampus.com), and regularly publishes articles on photography in popular magazines.
In addition, they have more than a dozen top selling coffee table books to their name, and are working on several more. (See bibliography below).
Daryl himself has spent a lifetime in the African wilderness. His early years trod the footsteps of the famous conservationist Ian Player, researching rhinos in the same hills and valleys of Zululand that Player had done. His mentors have included leading conservationists across Africa as well as some of the last of the "Great White Hunters" - men such as Tony Henley, Soren Lindstrom, Harry Selby, and Lionel Palmer - legends in their own lifetimes.
Daryl and Sharna Balfour spend as much as 10 months of each year in the field, either working on specialised projects of their own, or hosting small groups of enthusiasts on safaris across the length and breadth of Africa, and beyond. These personalised safaris are tailor-made according to the guests' individual requirements, with a specific emphasis on wildlife photography.
Daryl & Sharna also lead customized, exclusive safaris into Africa catering for families and friends, or corporate groups. Over the past 25 years Daryl has guided royalty, presidents, captains of industry, film stars, leading international photographers and filmmakers throughout Africa.
