This safari can accommodate a maximum of four guests at any time, and we are flexible with dates. The safari takes in two reserves that have become famous on television channels such as Discovery, Animal Planet and National Geographic for these cats – Londolozi Game Reserve adjoining the world-famous Kruger National Park, and the ground-breaking tiger conservation project, Tiger Canyons, in the heart of South Africa’s rugged and beautiful Karoo.
The Leopards of Londolozi was the title of a best-selling book and the stars of the book remain one of the biggest attractions of this world-renowned reserve.

Here we will collect our vehicle and transfer to the historic village of Philippolis, about two hours away, where we will be accommodated in restored traditional Karoo cottages. Tiger Canyons is an experiment in tiger conservation and does not currently have any structured tourism or accommodation. Daryl & Sharna Balfour however have been working with owner John Varty on this project since 2009 and will make special arrangements for our visit, photography sessions and interesting interactions with maverick conservationist Varty himself.
JV, as he is known to his friends, started his tiger conservation efforts back in the year 2000 with two tigers born in a USA zoo. Ron & Julie were brought to South Africa and underwent a momentous reintroduction and rehabilitation program that became the subject of the film Living with Tigers, seen in 160 countries worldwide. Later Ron & Julie were joined by two other captive bred tigers who were also rehabilitated into the wild.
Today Tiger Canyons is perhaps the most successful tiger conservation project in the world, and probably the only tiger reserve where numbers are steadily increasing. By December 2010 there were 16 tigers at Tiger Canyons – living free and wild and fending for themselves

Photo opportunities are unique – there can be no place anywhere where better images or viewing of tigers can be enjoyed. Most of the tigers are well habituated to the vehicles and close-up opportunities are almost guaranteed.
We spend three nights in a luxury lodge on Tiger Canyon Game Reserve with four full mornings and afternoons spent with JV and his tigers.
The costs of this safari will depend upon your accommodation options at Londolozi and the size of your party. Four guests is optimum but smaller groups can also be accommodated, as can larger parties. Dates & Rates by arrangement.
